INJURIES

Optioned to Triple-A Junis was optioned to Triple-A Omaha on Sunday, Josh Vernier of 610 Sports reports.
Impact Junis picked up a relief win during his last outing, but he's posted a 5.19 ERA and 1.44 WHIP in 34.2 innings across 15 innings (five starts) to begin the year. He'll head to the minors as part of a shuffle to make room for Jackson Kowar, who will be called up to make his major-league debut as Monday's starter against the Angels.
JUNE 6, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Grabs relief win Junis (2-3) allowed one earned run on two hits across one inning, picking up the win over the Twins on Thursday.
Impact Junis entered the seventh inning with a one-run lead. He surrendered the lead on a solo home run by Josh Donaldson. Ultimately, he got the win once the Royals retook the lead in the bottom of the seventh inning. The 28-year-old has struggled this season with a 5.19 ERA and a 1.44 WHIP in 34.2 innings. He has a 9.1 K/9 and a 2.9 BB/9.

Twins look to end 3-game slide against Royals

Minnesota is looking to snap its three-game losing streak with a win over Kansas City
JUNE 4, 2021 • Associated Press
Works 2.1 innings Junis allowed a run on three hits and three walks with two strikeouts in 2.1 innings of Thursday's 7-2 loss to Tampa Bay.
Impact Junis was able to end the third inning after an abbreviated start from Brady Singer. The 28-year-old Junis proceeded to labor through the fourth and fifth, allowing six baserunners in the relief appearance. After a stint in the rotation in April, the right-hander has worked out of the bullpen in his six of his last seven appearances. He's posted a 5.23 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 34:11 K:BB across 32.2 innings overall.

Tagged with loss in short outing Junis (1-3) took the loss in the second game of Friday's doubleheader against the White Sox, giving up three runs (two earned) on four hits over 1.1 innings. He struck out one.
Impact The right-hander hadn't recorded more than five outs in any of his first four appearances in May, so he likely wasn't going to last long in Friday's spot start anyway, but Junis' struggles made the decision to pull him quickly easier for Royals manager Mike Matheny. Junis now carries a 5.52 ERA, largely fueled by a 1.53 HR/9, despite a 31:8 K:BB through 29.1 innings.

Royals look to break 11-game losing streak against White Sox

Kansas City is looking to break its 11-game losing streak with a win over Chicago
MAY 14, 2021 • Associated Press
Starting Friday's nightcap Junis will start the second game of Friday's doubleheader against the White Sox, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports.
Impact Junis had come out of the bullpen in each of his last four appearances but will serve as a spot starter in Friday's twin bill. The right-hander has posted a 5.14 ERA and 1.29 WHIP in 28 innings across 10 appearances (four starts) this year.
MAY 13, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Charged with blown save Junis allowed a solo home run in one inning during Wednesday's 5-4 loss to Cleveland. He was charged with a blown save.
Impact Junis continues to struggle in a bullpen role. He allowed the game-tying solo shot to Jose Ramirez in the eighth inning. Junis has allowed four homers in his last 14 innings, spanning two starts and two relief outings. The right-hander carries a 5.19 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 29:9 K:BB across 26 innings. Without a spot in the rotation, there's little to like about Junis' current usage.
MAY 6, 2021 • ROTOWIRE
Stuck with loss Monday Junis (1-2) allowed five runs on four hits and a walk with two strikeouts over 1.2 innings to take the loss Monday versus Cleveland.
Impact Junis' return to a bullpen role went terribly -- he allowed a two-run single to Franmil Reyes in the fifth inning and a three-run homer to Eddie Rosario in the sixth. The 28-year-old Junis now owns a 5.04 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 25:8 K:BB across 25 innings. He's unlikely to see high-leverage work out of the bullpen, which greatly diminishes his fantasy value.

Moving back to bullpen Manager Mike Matheny said Sunday that Junis will shift back to the bullpen going forward, Lynn Worthy of The Kansas City Star reports.
Impact Junis began the 2021 season by tossing seven scoreless innings across three appearances, but he posted a 4.96 ERA and 1.35 WHIP in 16.1 innings across his last three appearances. The Royals will call up Daniel Lynch to make his major-league debut Monday, so Junis will serve as a reliever going forward. While Junis pitched well out of the bullpen to begin the season, he's unlikely to be in the mix for save chances.

Whiffs nine in loss Junis (1-1) took the loss Tuesday at Pittsburgh after allowing two runs on six hits with nine strikeouts and one walk across 6.1 innings.
Impact The 28-year-old pitched more than five innings for the first time this season and posted a quality start, but he was tagged with the loss since the Royals mustered only one run and four hits. Junis has a 3.47 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 27:7 K:BB through 23.1 innings this season, and he lines up to face Cleveland on Monday.
