    News

Canning was diagnosed with mild inflammation of his right elbow joint and he will be shut down for the rest of the season.

    Impact

It's good that he is only dealing with mild inflammation, which will allow him to proceed with a rest and recover route rather than surgery. However, he won't pitch again this season, so he can be cut loose in all redraft leagues. Canning had a 4.58 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 96 strikeouts in 90.1 innings during his rookie season. Jose Suarez is replacing him in the rotation.

    News

Canning was placed on the injured list Wednesday with right elbow inflammation, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

    Impact

The same issue forced Canning onto the injured list earlier in the month, though he was able to return after a brief stay on the shelf. The right-hander is headed back to California to be further evaluated, after which a timetable for his return will hopefully emerge. It's not yet clear who will take his place in the rotation, though the Angels can get away with a four-man rotation for most of the month thanks to a flurry of off days.

    News

Canning (5-6) allowed one run on five hits and a walk over seven innings Sunday, striking out eight and earning the win over the White Sox.

    Impact

Canning turned in one of the best performances of his young career, tying his career highs of seven innings pitched and eight punchouts. The 23-year-old rookie lowered his ERA to 4.58 alongside a 96:30 K:BB. Looking for his third straight win, he'll get a tough road matchup in Houston on Friday.

    News

Canning did not factor into the decision against the Pirates on Tuesday, tossing four innings and giving up three runs on six hits and three walks while striking out two.

    Impact

Canning had been out since July 30 while dealing with elbow inflammation and looked rusty in his return to the mound, issuing three walks while tossing only 48 of 80 pitches for strikes. All three runs against him crossed the plate in the third inning when he surrendered four hits and committed a costly throwing error. Canning now sports a 4.86 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 88:29 K:BB over 83.1 innings and will have a home matchup against the White Sox on Sunday in his next scheduled start.

    News

Canning (elbow) was activated off the 10-day injured list to start Tuesday versus the Pirates.

    Impact

Canning landed on the injured list in early August with right elbow inflammation, but he's able to make a quick return to the starting rotation. The 23-year-old has a 4.76 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 86:26 K:BB over 79.1 innings this season. His previous outing was one of his best of the year as he fired six scoreless frames with seven strikeouts.
