Mets face the Marlins leading series 1-0

The New York Mets face the Miami Marlins with a 1-0 series lead
APRIL 1 • Associated Press
Ready for rehab assignment Cabrera (finger) will begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Jacksonville on Tuesday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Impact Cabrera developed a blister on his right middle finger during a March 13 Grapefruit League start that resulted in him opening the season on the injured list, but he doesn't look as though he'll be in store for an extended stay on the shelf. After coming out of a three-inning simulated game last Wednesday no worse for the wear, Cabrera is now ready to test himself in an uncontrolled environment. He'll be eligible to return from the IL on April 7, but the Marlins may want him to complete one more rehab start beyond Tuesday's before clearing him for his 2025 debut with the big club.

The Miami Marlins take a 1-0 lead into the latest game of the series against the Pittsburgh Pirates

Officially goes on IL The Marlins placed Cabrera on the 15-day injured list Thursday with a right middle finger blister.
Impact Cabrera threw a simulated game Wednesday and hopes to be ready to rejoin the rotation by mid-April. Connor Gillispie and Valente Bellozo will fill rotation spots while Cabrera and Ryan Weathers (forearm) are out.
MARCH 27 • ROTOWIRE
Set for sim game Wednesday Cabrera (blister) will throw a bullpen session Monday ahead of a simulated game Wednesday, Justin Morris of MLB.com reports.
Impact The right-hander last pitched in a Grapefruit League game March 13 before being shut down due to a blister on the middle finger of his pitching hand. Cabrera is aiming for a mid-April return to the rotation, and he likely won't need too many outings to build back up for the regular season -- he threw 51 pitches, albeit only 24 of them for strikes, on March 7 in the spring start prior to developing the blister.
MARCH 24 • ROTOWIRE
Bullpen session on tap Cabrera (finger) will throw a bullpen session Monday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Impact Cabrera is already slated to begin the season on the injured list, but the fact he's trending toward mound work before Opening Day is good news considering his throwing session Monday reportedly didn't go well. If he gets through his bullpen session with no issues, the plan is for Cabrera to pitch in a sim game Wednesday, at which point a return timeline may be established.

MARCH 18 • MLB.COM
IL-bound with blister issue Cabrera will begin the season on the 15-day injured list with a blister on his right middle finger, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Impact Cabrera had to exit his last Grapefruit League outing with the issue. He played catch Monday, but evidently it must not have gone as well as hoped. Connor Gillispie has tossed eight scoreless innings this spring without allowing a hit and looks to be first in line to fill the rotation vacancy created by Cabrera's absence.
MARCH 18 • ROTOWIRE
Playing catch Monday Marlins manager Clayton McCullough said Cabrera (blister) will play catch Monday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Impact It will be the first time Cabrera has thrown since he had to be removed from his Grapefruit League start last Thursday with a blister on his right middle finger. Cabrera might have to skip his next spring training start, which would threaten his Opening Day availability.
MARCH 17 • ROTOWIRE
Could have next start skipped Marlins manager Clayton McCullough said Friday that Cabrera's (blister) next scheduled Grapefruit League start could be skipped, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Impact Cabrera had to be lifted from Thursday's Grapefruit League start against the Astros after just 12 pitches with a blister on his right middle finger. The Marlins will determine a course of action with Cabrera later Friday, but there's a distinct possibility he won't be ready for the start of the season. The righty has been pummeled for 13 runs on 11 hits and four walks over 4.2 innings this spring.

Dealing with blister issue Cabrera was forced from Thursday's Grapefruit League start against the Astros in the first inning with a blister on his right middle finger, Stephen Strom of the Marlins Radio Netw...
Impact Cabrera -- who has dealt with blister problems before -- lasted just 12 pitches and didn't record an out in the outing before being pulled. The right-hander has had a disastrous spring, allowing 13 runs on 11 hits and four walks over 4.2 frames. Cabrera is expected to open the season in the Marlins' rotation, although that plan might be revisited.
MARCH 13 • ROTOWIRE
Exits start with apparent injury Cabrera was removed from Thursday's Grapefruit League start against the Astros in the first inning with an apparent injury, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Impact De Nicola speculates that Cabrera -- who threw only two of 12 pitches for strikes before being lifted -- could be having fingernail issues, which is something he's dealt with in the past. The Marlins should update the right-hander's status shortly.
MARCH 13 • ROTOWIRE
Spring struggles continue Cabrera got tagged for six runs on four hits -- including three home runs -- and two walks over 1.2 innings in Friday's Grapefruit League game against the Red Sox. He struck out tw...
Impact Trevor Story took Cabrera deep twice, while Abraham Toro also touched him up for a long ball. The right-hander's ability to generate whiffs keeps earning him chances in the Marlins' rotation -- he's posted a strikeout rate north of 25 percent in the majors in each of the last three seasons -- but Cabrera's control and command within the strike zone remain significant hurdles between him and consistent fantasy production. Through 4.2 innings over three appearances this spring, he's stumbled to a 19.29 ERA with a 3:2 K:BB.
MARCH 8 • ROTOWIRE
Shaky command to begin spring Cabrera gave up three runs on four hits in just one inning during Tuesday's Grapefruit League game against the Nationals.
Impact While the right-hander didn't walk anyone and tossed 15 of 21 pitches for strikes, he failed to record a strikeout and uncorked a wild pitch. Cabrera also had trouble hitting his spots, leaving too many pitches over the heart of the plate. The Marlins are counting on Cabrera to take a step forward in 2025 and become a reliable rotation arm, but over parts of four big-league seasons he's never finished with a walk rate below 11.3 percent, and without better control and command his impressive raw stuff isn't going to translate into consistent results.
FEBRUARY 26 • ROTOWIRE
Drawing raves from new skipper New Marlins manager Clayton McCullough believes Cabrera can take a big step forward this season, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports.
Impact The 26-year-old has never been lacking in raw arm talent and has struck out 225 batters in 196 innings over the last two seasons, but Cabrera's shaky control and command have been the main thing holding him back so far during his big-league career, along with an inability to stay healthy. Despite McCullough's enthusiasm, it's hard to get too excited about Cabrera as a fantasy asset given his 4.95 ERA, 4.68 FIP and 1.40 HR/9 in 2024, but the Marlins are in dire need of quality innings and the right-hander is locked into a rotation spot as long as he can avoid another trip to the IL.
FEBRUARY 5 • ROTOWIRE
Settles with Miami The Marlins and Cabrera avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year contract Thursday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
Impact Cabrera qualified for Super 2 status and will avoid an arbitration hearing. Still trying to find consistency at the major-league level, the right-hander held a 4.95 ERA and 107:50 K:BB over 96.1 innings this past season.

Notches no-decision Wednesday Cabrera allowed three runs (one earned) on four hits and one walk while striking out five batters over five innings in a no-decision against Minnesota on Wednesday.
Impact Cabrera's own error led to two unearned runs in the third inning, and he served up a solo shot to Byron Buxton in the fourth. The most impressive part of the right-hander's outing was his 16 swinging strikes, though they led to a modest five punchouts. Cabrera didn't get the win, but this was a vast improvement over his previous start, when he gave up seven runs over 2.1 frames against the Dodgers.
