Racks up fifth save Bass struck out one in a perfect seventh inning Friday to record his fifth save of the season during the first game of a doubleheader against the Red Sox.
Impact After going nearly a month without a save, Bass has now picked one up in consecutive appearances. He's been effective however he's been deployed this season, posting a 2.37 ERA, 0.84 WHIP and 15:4 K:BB through 19 innings, but his flexibility will likely bump him from the closer role once Ken Giles (forearm) or Jordan Romano (finger) get healthy.

Back in save column Bass pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning Wednesday against the Marlins, leading to his fourth save of the season.
Impact With the recent departure of Jordan Romano (finger) to the 10-day injured list and Ken Giles (forearm) still building up his arm strength, Bass has become the Blue Jays' only realistic candidate to handle the closer role in the short term. The right-hander earned his first save since Aug. 8 and as he was able to withhold a run from scoring for the first time in his last three appearances. Both Romano and Giles are expected back in 2020, but until either one of them returns, Bass figures to remain as the team's primary closer.

Still in mix for saves Bass was unavailable Monday when Jordan Romano got the save but is available Tuesday against the Red Sox and manager Charlie Montoyo said he is comfortable with either pitcher savi...
Impact Romano is the current Jays reliever du jour after Bass held that title a couple weeks ago. It sounds like they both will continue to get save chances in the short term, and Bass could be the guy if a save chance were to arise Tuesday. Ken Giles (forearm) continues to progress and could take the closer's job back sometime in September.

Takes first loss Bass (1-1) took the loss Saturday as the Blue Jays fell 2-1 to the Rays in 10 innings, allowing an unearned run on a hit and an intentional walk in two-thirds of an inning.
Impact Brought in to get the final out of the ninth inning in a tie game, Bass returned for the 10th but couldn't hold Tampa at bay with the speedy Manuel Margot beginning the frame at second base. Despite the stumble, the right-hander still has a 2.13 ERA, 0.71 WHIP and 9:3 K:BB through 12.2 innings, but manager Charlie Montoyo's recent usage of him suggests Bass is just one of the high-leverage arms, along with Jordan Romano and perhaps a couple others, who could get regular save chances for Toronto over the final part of the season.

Earns extra-inning win Bass (1-0) pitched two innings, allowing just one hit and striking out three to earn the win in Tuesday's 8-7 extra-inning victory over the Orioles.
Impact Bass was unavailable over the weekend, but he's pitched three scoreless innings in the last two games versus the Orioles. He was able to get the win Tuesday after the Blue Jays put up a run in the top of the 10th inning. Bass has a 2.45 ERA, 0.64 WHIP, nine strikeouts and three saves through 10 appearances. He should continue to be in the conversation for late-inning work when healthy.

Dealing with back tightness Bass was unavailable for Sunday's doubleheader against the Rays due to back tightness, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Impact Bass tossed a scoreless inning with one strikeout in Friday's series opener against the Blue Jays, but he apparently suffered a back issue that prevented him from entering either of the contests in Sunday's twin bill. It's unclear whether the issue will impact his availability going forward. Bass has converted on three of his four save opportunities to begin the season while also posting a 3.38 ERA and 0.75 WHIP over eight innings.
AUGUST 16, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
Converts third save Bass pitched a perfect ninth inning with one strikeout to earn the save in Saturday's 2-1 win over the Red Sox.
Impact Bass whiffed Christian Vazquez before getting flyouts from Kevin Pillar and Jackie Bradley to finish the inning on a mere eight pitches. The 32-year-old Bass has yet to allow a run in 6.1 innings this year, with just two hits and a walk against him so far. Expect the right-hander to continue in the closer role while Ken Giles (forearm) is out.

AUGUST 8, 2020 • Associated Press
Picks up second save Bass worked around a hit and a walk in a scoreless ninth inning against the Braves on Wednesday to earn his second save of the season.
Impact He also worked around the worst missed-strike call in MLB this season, a pitch right down the heart of the plate called a ball. Bass did not have a single swinging strike on 16 pitches, but he got the job done regardless and it's clear that he has the job pretty much all to himself while Ken Giles (forearm) is sidelined.
