Frazier will take a seat with southpaw Drew Smyly set to take the mound for Philadelphia. Kevin Newman will play second base and lead off while Jung-Ho Kang will draw the start at shortstop.
Frazier is not in Wednesday's lineup against the Cardinals.
He is hitting .435 with one home run and one steal in 46 at-bats this month. Kevin Newman starts at second base while Jung Ho Kang gets the start at shortstop.
Frazier is not in the lineup Saturday against the Cubs.
Kevin Newman will slide over to play second base as Jung Ho Kang gets the start at shortstop against Chicago lefty Jon Lester. Frazier is slashing a phenomenal .529/.556/.824 with a home run, 11 runs scored and seven RBI in seven July starts. The left-handed-hitting second baseman owns a .659 career OPS against left-handed pitching.
Frazier went 3-for-6 with an RBI in Friday's 7-6 loss to the Brewers.
After batting eighth in the lineup for most of June, he's hit leadoff in each of the last four games he has started. Frazier will likely continue to rotate hitting out of the top spot with Kevin Newman, based upon pitching matchups. The second baseman now has 13 hits in his last 21 at-bats, raising his batting average from .254 to .279 since June 30.
Frazier is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Cubs.
While returning to the leadoff spot for the first time since June 9, Frazier was instrumental in helping the Pirates secure wins in the first three games of the series. During those three contests, Frazier went 10-for-14 with a home run, five doubles, six RBI, six runs and a stolen base. Even though Kevin Newman has shined as the Pirates' primary leadoff option for more than a month, manager Clint Hurdle may reconsider his lineup slotting while Frazier sports a red-hot bat.
