It appears last October truly was Matt Holliday’s farewell to St. Louis.

The veteran outfielder reportedly signed a one-year deal with the New York Yankees on Sunday. MLB on FOX’s Ken Rosenthal reports the deal is worth $13 million.

Holliday has spent the last eight years with the St. Louis Cardinals. Holliday, 36, missed much of the Cardinals’ second half last season due to a thumb injury.

Holliday made an emotional three-game return at the end of the season after management notified him the team would likely not be picking up his contract option.

The left fielder was an integral part of the Cardinals’ 2011 World Series championship team.

Holliday was a four-time NL All-Star with the Cardinals. He’s been selected to seven All-Star teams in his career.

He’s expected to primarily serve as a designated hitter with the Yankees.
