After making 10 saves against the LA Galaxy on Sunday, Sporting Kansas City goalkeeper Tim Melia has been named the MLS Player of the Week.

Melia’s 10 saves in the 2-0 victory were a career high and established a new regular-season club record. He made seven of his 10 stops in the second half as Sporting KC (4-1-1, 13 points) pushed its unbeaten run to five matches and moved into a tie for first place in the Supporters’ Shield standings.

Melia’s clean sheet was his second straight. His best moment came in the 43rd minute when he dove at full extension to push Ashley Cole‘s swerving shot onto the post.

Melia, 31, was named MLS Goalkeeper of the Year last season.
