The Kansas City Royals announced on Sunday morning that they have optioned right-handed reliever Glenn Sparkman to their Triple-A affiliate, the Omaha Storm Chasers.

Sparkman was pressed into long-relief duty in Saturday’s loss to the Yankees, throwing three innings following the early exit of Heath Fillmyer. He allowed three runs on six hits and two walks.

Over three appearances with the Royals this season, the 26-year-old Sparkman has a 8.10 ERA while allowing 13 hits and two walks with three strikeouts over 6 2/3 innings.
