Chiefs sign first-rounder Mahomes to four-year contract
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Chiefs have signed quarterback Patrick Mahomes to a four-year rookie contract.
Kansas City selected the Texas Tech quarterback with the 10th overall selection in April’s NFL Draft.
It was the first time Kansas City had taken a quarterback in the first round since Todd Blackledge in 1983.
The Chiefs sent the No. 27 and No. 91 overall picks in this year’s draft as well as their first-round pick in next year’s draft to Buffalo in order to acquire a successor to Alex Smith. The veteran starter has two years remaining on his contract, though Smith becomes inexpensive to release after next season.
