Kentucky Derby winner Nyquist set to return to races in Haskell at Monmouth

Kentucky Derby winner Nyquist is ready to return to the races. The 3-year-old will make his next start in the Haskell Stakes at Monmouth Park, trainer Doug O’Neiil announced on Facebook Monday.

The Haskell will be contested at the New Jersey track on July 31.

Nyquist ran his undefeated streak to eight races in the Run for the Roses.

He was defeated by Exaggerator in the Preakness, finishing second by 3 1/2 lengths over a sloppy strip at Pimlico.

Nyquist did not race in the Belmont, as a potential Triple Crown series rubber match was lost when he turned up sick.

Nyquist has recuperated and worked out on Monday, going five furlongs in 59 seconds.
