Eblouissante, half-sister to superstar Zenyatta, retires from racing

Eblouissante, a half-sister to superstar mare Zenyatta, has been retired from racing and will be sent to Europe to begin her breeding career.

She finished her career with two wins and a second in seven starts, losing a pair of graded stakes.

The 6-year-old daughter of Bernardini out of the mare Vertigineux will be bred to either Frankel or Oasis Dream, according to Santa Anita.

Eblouissante finished last in the Paseana Stakes on Jan. 11 in her final start at the track.

Trained by John Shirreffs, who oversaw Zenyatta, Eblouissante won her first two starts, but failed to live up to the promise she showed in those races. She later sold for $2.1 million at the 2013 Keeneland November breeding stock sale.
