Parker’s good performances earn him big call-up
John Parker of CLC Striders has been selected for the England
men’s M35 cross-country team at the British
Masters Championships in Dublin next
Parker has run well over the past few months to earn his call-up
for the event on November 13.
A former golf professional, he captured a 5K Midlands M35 title
on the track, a national 5K M35 title on the road and a national
silver M35 medal over 10K on the road.
At the first Gloucestershire Cross-Country League race, CLC
Striders ladies were led home by Liza Barry in seventh place.
Her first league top-ten 10 finish, she was followed by Rachel
Vines in 18th – her first league top-20 finish – and final A-team
scorer Pat Woods, who ran well to clinch 28th position.
The ladies’ A team finished in second position on the day.
Other notable performances were had by Jo Wilkie, finishing in
an encouraging 30th place, and debutant Jessica Shaw in 38th.
Ali Perrio, also making her debut, finished in a respectable
Parker led the men home and ran well to finish in second
Chris Driskall was next in 51st, with Jamie Patterson 56th,
Billy Bradshaw 72nd, James Gibbs 77th and new boy Joel Freeland the
final A team scorer in 91st position.
The men finished eighth team on the day.
