Phantom Cam returns to Sun Sports for Rays-Yankees series

TAMPA, Fla. — It can capture the splintering of a bat and pick up the bend of the bat as it makes contact with the ball. FOX’s Phantom Cam is revolutionizing game telecasts — and it’s coming back to Sun Sports. Sun Sports, the statewide television home of the Tampa Bay Rays, will bring back the Phantom Cam for the Rays vs. New York Yankees series, from April 17-20.

With the ability to record up to 5,000 frames per second, Phantom Cam is able to show live game action in never-before-seen slow-motion detail. A typical slow-motion camera records at 380 frames per second or less. The Phantom Cam frame rate allows the broadcast to slow video down with clarity to show things the human eye and other cameras cannot pick up.  Due to the heightened rate, the Phantom Cam can slow down even the smallest elements of the game, focusing in with incredible clarity on visuals like the pronation of a pitchers arm.

After rave reviews following its introduction during the World Series two years ago, and a successful debut on Sun Sports with the Rays last season, FOX Sports has increased usage of the camera throughout all of the FOX Sports Regional Networks. Nationally, FOX has beefed up its resources in every region including Florida, with additional high-speed cameras and wireless-RF-camera systems, FOX Vision analysis and more.

The Phantom Cam will remain in Tampa for next week’s Rays vs. Minnesota Twins series.
