GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Five Florida Gators were named to the Coaches’ 2015 All-SEC First and Second Teams, the league announced on Monday afternoon. Three Gators were named to the First Team Defense, Jon Bullard as a defensive lineman, Vernon Hargreaves and Jalen Tabor as defensive backs. Antonio Morrison was tabbed to the Second Team Defense at linebacker and punter Johnny Townsend made the Second Team Special Teams list.
Bullard led the Gator defense in tackles for a loss and sacks during the season. The Shelby, N.C. native used 17.5 tackles for a loss to push opponents back 88 yards throughout the 2015 campaign, while also compiling six and a half sacks. Tabor led the Gators with 14 pass breakups, grabbing four interceptions along the way. Hargreaves matched Tabor with four interceptions and had 152 return yards for UF.
With 97 tackles this season, Morrison leads the Gator defensive unit with 56 of those tackles being unassisted. The Bellwood, Ill. native also contributed three quarterback hurries, one pass breakup and on forced fumble. Redshirt sophomore Townsend was instrumental to the Gators during the 2015 campaign. The Orlando native led the SEC in punting yards this year with 3,549 and an average of 44.4 yards per punt.
The Gators will continue the 2015 season with a trip to Orlando for the Buffalo Wild Wings Citrus Bowl against the Michigan Wolverines set to take place on Jan. 1, 2016. The game will be broadcast on ABC at 1 p.m.
