University of Miami linebacker Denzel Perryman will return for his senior season.

Perryman, who led the team with 108 tackles and recorded six games with 10-plus stops, made the announcement on Friday. He received a third-round grade from the NFL Draft advisory board.

”I decided to stay because it is the best decision for me and my family,” Perryman said in a statement. ”Ever since Coach (Al) Golden got here, I feel like this program is moving forward and will continue to rise under his direction.

”This coaching staff is dedicated to player development and getting us better. I’ve grown as a player and person each year thanks to them.”

The first-team All-ACC player started all 13 games for the Hurricanes, collecting five tackles for a loss, 1.5 sacks, one forced fumble and three pass breakups.

Chickillo returns to UM

Over three seasons, Perryman has appeared in 34 games (24 starts). He has compiled 241 tackles (17.5 TFL), 2.5 sacks, four forced fumbles, five pass breakups and one interception. He is 86 tackles shy of Ted Hendricks for 10th-most in program history and 102 from James Burgess for ninth.

On Wednesday, junior defensive lineman Anthony Chickillo took to Twitter to announce that he would be coming back. Junior tight end Clive Walford told media following the Russell Athletic Bowl that he would return. Junior offensive guard Jon Feliciano, who started all 13 games in 2013, will also be back. An All-ACC honorable mention, Feliciano has started all but two of the 35 games he has appeared in since his redshirt freshman year.

Perryman graduated from Coral Gables High, which is just down the road from UM’s campus. He has helped the program gradually improve its win total each year.

”Before this season, we hadn’t had a nine-win season in a long time,” Perryman said. ”For those of us in my class who had never been to a bowl game because of the sanctions, it was a great feeling and I want to be a part of the next step forward.”
