How does position eligibility work?
Players begin the season with position eligibility based on the previous season and cannot lose this eligibility during the season. A position player must have played 20 or more games at a position to be considered eligible for the position. A pitcher needed to have started 5 games or relieved 8 games to be eligible at starting pitcher and relief pitcher, respectively.

As the current season unfolds, a player may gain position eligibility. A position player can gain eligibility at a position after appearing at the position in 10 games. A pitcher may gain starting pitcher eligibility after 3 starts and relief pitcher eligibility after 5 relief appearances.
