Ready to go: Phils’ Lee to start Monday

Lee is 4-4 with a 3.18 ERA and a 1.28 WHIP in 10 starts this season.

Kirby Lee

When is it OK for a pitcher to allow eight earned runs in four-and-two-thirds innings? When you’re Phillies SP Cliff Lee, and simply hoping to get through your final rehab start without any health setbacks. Lee, who has been out since May 18 due to an elbow injury, will come off the DL to start on Monday against the Giants. Be prepared to activate Lee next week if you own him.

News & notes

The Royals are hoping that OF Alex Gordon (wrist) will be able to return to the lineup on Friday.

The A’s are targeting a Friday return for OF Josh Reddick (knee), but the DL is still a possibility for OF Coco Crisp (neck).

OF Alfonso Soriano has been officially released by the Yankees. Soriano had 34 home runs, 101 RBI and 18 stolen bases last season. Things went downhill quickly for him, didn’t they? Someone else will probably pick up Soriano, and he might hit some home runs, but I wouldn’t grab him in a 12-team mixed league.

I’d write something about the Home Run Derby, but I think it’s still in progress.

Did you notice that Braves 3B Chris Johnson hit three home runs in his final two games before the All-Star break? Johnson is owned in just 32.3 percent of leagues, and is probably a top-15 fantasy option at the hot corner.

Here’s a link to Friday’s pitching probables, in case you’re wondering who will pitch coming out of the break. There are plenty of articles out there headlined, "Manager X Sets Rotation for After All-Star Break," but we won’t link to all of them.

If you were Mike Matheny, would you have picked Adam Wainwright to start for the NL tonight over Clayton Kershaw?

Finally, as a loyal company man, I should tell you that today’s coverage of the MLB All-Star Game begins at 4:30 p.m. ET with America’s Pregame on FOX Sports 1, and then moves to FOX at 7:30 p.m.  Here’s a primer on how you should chant in your living room during the first inning: DERR-ek JEE-ter (clap, clap, clap-clap-clap) …

See you back here tomorrow morning, with as much helpful news as I can find.
