USC Notes: Ex-Miami receiver Collier joins Trojans

Former Miami Hurricanes wide receiver Thearon Collier has transferred to USC, Lane Kiffin announced on Saturday. In two seasons at Miami, Collier caught 44 passes for 574 yards and three touchdowns. He also added two punt returns for touchdowns.

Collier will have to sit out the 2010 season, but will contribute at wide receiver and on special teams in 2011.

– USC’s defense had another strong showing during the final scrimmage of fall camp. The defense caused four interceptions, including a 35-yard interception return for a touchdown by senior cornerback Shareece Wright.

– Tailback Allen Bradford was held out of the scrimmage with a bruised left knee. He hopes to return to action on Monday. With Bradford out, Marc Tyler made the most of his opportunity to work with the first-team offense and finished the day with a team-high 84 yards rushing and a touchdown.

Tyler is starting to push Bradford for the starting tailback spot.

– Left guard, middle linebacker and No.2 wide receiver are the three position battles that are still up for grabs. Kiffin hopes to have the depth chart figured out by this week.

– USC was ranked 14th in the pre-season AP poll.
