FOX Sports Detroit, FOX2 become Lions’ official TV partners

FOX Sports Detroit is teaming up with FOX2 (WJBK-TV) to televise Detroit Lions preseason games, along with additional Lions coverage during the regular season.

The preseason games, which had been aired on the ABC affiliate in recent years, will be carried first on FOX2 and then replayed on FOX Sports Detroit. FOX Sports Detroit will be responsible for producing the game broadcasts.

The new multiyear agreement was announced Thursday by the Lions.

"Partnering with FOX2 and Fox Sports Detroit will expand our presence on the local station that broadcasts many of our regular-season games along with the most comprehensive sports network in Michigan," team president Tom Lewand said. "Lions fans will a have greater opportunity to view our TV programming than ever before."

The deal includes FOX Sports Detroit televising coach Jim Caldwell’s weekly news conferences every Monday.

FOX Sports Detroit also will carry postgame shows, simulcast on, during the regular season.

"Everyone at FOX Sport Detroit is excited about this new partnership," said Greg Hammaren, FOX Sports Detroit’s senior vice president and general manager. "The combination of Lions content and FOX Sports Detroit’s massive statewide platform will serve fans well all year long. We look forward to working with FOX2 to bring these pre-season games to life with all the assets of FOX Sports."

FOX2, the FOX-TV affiliate in Detroit, will air a one-hour pregame show each week, plus a late-night recap on Sundays during the regular season.

"It’s a tremendous opportunity for FOX2 to partner with the Detroit Lions, one of the strongest sports brands in our market," said Mike Renda, vice president and general manager of FOX2. "This deal not only enhances our programming lineup but furthers our commitment to our viewers."
