APRIL IN THE D springs into its 10th annual celebration

FOX Sports Detroit continues to do its part to help bring Detroiters out of the winter blues with its 10th annual APRIL IN THE D campaign, celebrating the city’s passion for sports and the welcomed arrival of springtime.

This year’s campaign culminates with the first annual I RAN THE D 5K Run/Walk, set to take place on Sunday, April 23, at 9 a.m.

“April in the D has always celebrated the city’s passion for sports and the welcomed arrival of springtime,” said Greg Hammaren, senior vice president and general manager of FOX Sports Detroit. “This year is even more special with all four teams heading downtown to celebrate our 10th April in the D campaign. The I RAN THE D 5K Run/Walk is a great way to see all the incredible growth of our city — even part of our course is in the shape of a D.”

FOX Sports Detroit partnered with the Detroit Lions, Detroit Pistons, Detroit Red Wings and Detroit Tigers for the run. In addition, the teams will have April in the D giveaways at the following games:

* April 3: Detroit Red Wings vs. Ottawa Senators — first 10,000 fans receive a limited-edition Red Wings “April in the D” Luggage Tag

* April 8: Detroit Tigers vs. Boston Red Sox — first 10,000 fans receive an “April in the D” Trapper Hat

* April 10: Detroit Pistons vs. Washington Wizards — all fans will receive a Pistons “April in the D” final regular-season game t-shirt.

Here are details of each component of APRIL IN THE D:

Programming: Thirty-five games will be televised on FOX Sports Detroit and FOX Sports Detroit Plus. The Tigers are scheduled 26 times in the month, including an Opening Day celebration that will feature a FOX Sports GO activation out front of Comerica Park. The Red Wings say Farewell to the Joe, closing out the regular season with five games on FOX Sports Detroit in the month of April. The Pistons round out their regular-season schedule and time at The Palace with four games on FSD.

Marketing: In addition to a steady rotation of on-air promos, APRIL IN THE D will be the subject of stadium/arena signage and branded merchandise for public events and social media.

APRIL IN THE D will also be featured on FOXSportsDetroit.com and the network’s social media outlets, including Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and Twitter. Fans are encouraged to tag their photos training and on race day with #IRANTHED on Twitter and Instagram.
