Smith scores 10 in second Global T20 Canada match

TORONTO (AP) Former Australia captain Steve Smith was out for 10 in his second match at the Global T20 Canada on Saturday.

Smith, unable to play for Australia while serving a 12-month ban for ball-tampering, hit a couple of boundaries then pulled Canada medium-pacer Satsimranjit Dhindsa straight to Hassan Khan at deep square leg.

Smith scored 61 in his first match on Thursday.

Smith’s departure left Toronto Nationals on 33-4 in the sixth over. They recovered to make 169-7, thanks to Nitish Kumar’s 55 off 37 balls, Kieron Pollard’s 28 off 16, and Mohammad Naveed’s 26 off 13.

The Edmonton Royals chased down the target with five overs to spare, reaching 173-2.

Openers Andre Fletcher of West Indies (68 not out) and Luke Ronchi of New Zealand (47) combined for 71, and Fletcher finished the rout with Agha Salman and Farhaan Behardien.

In the second match, the West Indies B team (187-8)) beat Montreal (184-9) by two wickets with five balls remaining.

Nicholas Pooran top-scored for the winners with 58 runs while Brandon King added 56.

The five-team competition ends on July 15.
