Rain delays start in NZ-Pakistan 1st test in Christchurch

CHRISTCHURCH, New Zealand (AP) Rain has delayed the start of the first cricket test between New Zealand and Pakistan.

The toss was scheduled to be made at 10:30 a.m. local time (2130 GMT) but the covers were still on the pitch at Hagley Oval, under steady rain.

Both teams have delayed the announcement of their lineups for the match, though New Zealand has said opening batsman Jeet Raval will make his test debut.

Pakistan, ranked No. 2 in tests, begins the two-test series as favorite, and hasn't lost a test series in New Zealand since 1985.

New Zealand has lost its last four tests to South Africa (1-0) and India (3-0).
