India 60-1 after dismissing England for 283

MOHALI, India (AP) India made a confident start to its reply after quickly mopping up England's first innings on the second day of the third test on Sunday.

England was bowled out for 283 after resuming on 268-8. India responded by reaching 60-1 at lunch, trailing by 223 runs.

Parthiv Patel was unbeaten on 37 runs while Cheteshwar Pujara was 8 not out after England made an early breakthrough by dismissing Murali Vijay for 12.

Vijay fell with the total on 39 when he edged a catch behind to English wicketkeeper off Ben Stokes.

Indian paceman Mohammed Shami struck twice to bring a quick end to England's innings.

He got Adil Rashid for 4, caught behind in the second over of the morning, then trapped Gareth Batty leg before wicket for 1 to leave James Anderson stranded on 13.
