MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) West Indies star Chris Gayle hit seven sixes and a four in a 12-ball half century in Australia's Big Bash League Monday which equaled the fastest 50 in Twenty20 cricket history.
Gayle matched the record held by India's Yuvraj Singh with an innings for the Melbourne Renegades which comprised 2, no run, 6, 6, 6, 6, 2, 6, 6, 4, 1 and 6.
He hit four straight sixes in the first over of the match, bowled by Greg West, then added sixes from a no-ball and the subsequent free hit off Ben Laughlin.

Gayle hit the first ball of the first over bowled by spinner Travis Head for his seventh six to match Yuvraj's 12-ball world record. However, he couldn't save the Renegades from a 27-run loss to the Adelaide Strikers.
Renegades captain Cameron White said Gayle's innings was ''great, it was unreal.''
