Tide Opens as 18.5-Point Favorite Over Auburn in Iron Bowl

Alabama has won six of the past eight Iron Bowls, and are an 18.5-point favorite over No. 15 Auburn in Saturday’s Iron Bowl.

No. 1 Alabama has opened as a 18.5-point favorite against No. 15 Auburn, according to VegasInsider.com, for Saturday’s game at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

The opening point spread is almost unchanged from the 18-point spread listed by the South Point casino in Las Vegas before the 2016 season began.

Auburn is hoping to have several key players back for this week’s rivalry game (2:30 pm CT, CBS), including quarterback Sean White (shoulder), running back Kamryn Pettway (leg), cornerback Carlton Davis (ankle) and linebacker Tre’ Williams (ankle).

Two Alabama offensive linemen sustained shoulder injuries during the Tide’s win over Chattanooga on Saturday — left tackle Cam Robinson and right guard Korren Kirven.

Both left the game and didn’t return, but coach Nick Saban said he expects both will be able to play against Auburn next Saturday.

“We think they’ll be OK,” Saban said, “but doc is going to continue to evaluate it, and we’ll make sure they’re going to be OK.”

Alabama holds the 44-35-1 lead in the all-time series with Auburn and has won the last two Iron Bowls, four of the last five and six of the last eight. The Crimson Tide beat the Tigers 29-13 at Jordan-Hare Stadium last season and 55-44 at Bryant-Denny Stadium in 2014.

Alabama has already clinched its third straight SEC West title and will play Florida in the SEC Championship game for the second straight year.

Alabama is 8-2 against the spread and Auburn is 8-3 against the spread this season.
