COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) Texas A&M defensive end Myles Garrett is declaring for the NFL draft.

Garrett was a consensus All-American this season as a junior, finishing with 8 1/2 sacks and 15 tackles for losses despite missing two games and being limited in several others.

Garrett issued a statement thanking the school and his coaches and added: ''I look forward to the challenges that are ahead and I am excited about the opportunity to play at the next level. I will play for any NFL team that gives me a chance and they will get my very best effort.''

Garrett is expected to be a high first-round pick and many believe he could be the top overall pick in April.

Coach Kevin Sumlin wished Garrett the best in the draft.

Sumlin says: ''Not only is he an exceptional talent, but he is an even better person and teammate. He has the desire, heart and character to achieve greatness on and off of the football field.''
