Tennessee head coach Butch Jones announced the dismissal of senior wide receiver Alton "Pig" Howard from the team Wednesday due to an unspecified violation of team rules.

"Alton Howard, as you all are very aware of, he’s had concussion-like symptoms and many nagging injuries," Jones said. "However, he has been dismissed from the football team and [that is] totally unrelated to his injuries."

Howard was suspended for the Vols’ opener against Bowling Green, also for an unspecified violation of team rules and had only appeared in two of the team’s five games after battling injuries all season.

The senior lead the Vols in receiving yards the past two seasons and exits the football program with over 1,200 yards of total offense and six touchdowns in his career.
