With over a dozen head coaching jobs currently open across the nation, the coaching carousel is currently running at full speed this week and Tennessee is doing whatever it can to secure Butch Jones stays happy in Knoxville.

Rumors began circulating Monday that the school had begun contract negotiations with Jones, who just wrapped up his third season on Rocky Top with his best record yet at the school at 8-4, 5-3 in the league play.

Tennessee athletic director Dave Hart appeared to confirm those rumors Tuesday.

“Butch and I communicate, as we do with all of our coaches, on a very regular basis,” Hart said. “We’ve already opened those conversations, and we’ll continue to have those conversations.”

After Hart spoke to the media, Jones took the podium and was asked if had any intentions to pursue other opportunities outside of coaching Tennessee.

“I’ve stated it very clearly: Tennessee is the place I want to be,” Jones said. “My family loves it here. Our fan base has been extremely loyal. All you have to do is look at our fan attendance. I believe we averaged over 100,000 fans for the first time since 2008. I think our attendance has been up… each season. I’m a big believer in loyalty, and right now Tennessee is where I’m extremely happy.
