Syracuse Football Recruiting Sitdown: Kingsley Jonathan

It was an extremely successful National Signing Day for the Syracuse football team. We decided to sit down with one of the key recruits.

We had you covered for National Signing Day with over 23 recruits committing to the Syracuse football team. Over the next several weeks we’ll be breaking down each recruit in detail.

But we start off that venture by sitting down with one special recruit who signed the dotted line. Kingsley Jonathan, often has seen his name misconstrued, but we’ve gotten that all figured out.

We decided to ask him some key questions regarding: his goals, why he picked the Orange, and the possibility of transitioning to OLB. On top of that we also probed him on some fun topics: a nickname, sack celebrations, and what pro player he models his game after.

First off, quite simply what drew you to Syracuse and ultimately why’d you pick the Orange?

“I love the atmosphere it feels like family and it’s a beautiful school, the coaches have faith in me and I have faith in them.”

You’ve played DL have you ever played any OLB? Do you ever see yourself ever making that transition at your size?

“I played DE my first year and OLB this last season for Saint Frances because we needed someone to fill that spot. It took me a short while to work with the transition but I got it down and had a really good year.”

What are some of your goals at SU from a team and an individual perspective? Do you have your eyes set on the NFL? Or perhaps another venture?

“From a team perspective, I hope I can help the team to a Bowl Game and a great season. Personally it’s getting better every single day. I definitely have my eyes set on the NFL.”

“Most of my teammates call me the Nigerian Nightmare. My big play celebration is a loud yell and stomping my foot into the ground lol.”

Is there a pro player you model your game after? Have you taken any of their tools to try and add to your repertoire?

Kingsley Jonathan (@frozen_dart):

“I model my game after JJ Watt I’m learning how to implement my strength like he does. Khalil Mack is also another player, I love the way he gets around the edge with how low he gets at that corner, I watch him closely and it has helped me improve on my pass rush.”
