St. Joseph’s (Ind.) slips past Valparaiso 36-34

Cameron Crabtree scored on a 6-yard run with 24 seconds

remaining, lifting Division II St. Joseph’s (Ind.) to a 36-34

victory over Valparaiso on Thursday night.

The Pumas began their winning drive at their 7-yard line with

3:01 left. Quarterback Billy VandeMerkt had 10 completions on the

drive, for 90 yards.

Gabe Ali-El gave Valparaiso a 34-27 lead on a 5-yard run with

2:49 left in the third quarter.

St. Joseph’s cut the lead to 34-30 on a 39-yard field goal by

Gavin Voss with 7:14 left in the game.

VandeMerkt completed 21 of 38 passes for 303 yards and two

touchdowns. Julian Walker caught 11 passes for 205 yards and two
