Five factoids about Samaje Perine’s rushing record-breaking day
Samaje Perine broke Melvin Gordon’s one-week old record with 427 yards rushing in Oklahoma’s 44-7 victory over Kansas on Saturday in Norman.
Here are five factoids about Perine’s super Saturday:
1. HE ACTUALLY BROKE TWO RECORDS
2. HE DIDN’T EVEN START
Keith Ford opened at running back for the Sooners. Ford, a sophomore, had three rushes for 10 yards — one a yard loss — as Oklahoma went three-and-out on its first series. Many have mentioned that Gordon racked up his 408 yards last week in three quarters. Sooners fans can respond with: Perine was cheated out of carries in TWO quarters (in addition to not starting, he also left the game with more than 12 minutes remaining).
3. HE HIT KANSAS EARLY AND OFTEN
It didn’t take long for Perine to make an imprint. After a Kansas three-and-out, Perine took the ball on his first carry of the game 49 yards for a touchdown to give the Sooners a 7-0 lead.
4. HE DID EVEN DAMAGE
5. HE WAS SIMPLY UNSTOPPABLE
The Sooners handed the ball to Perine on 12 of 13 plays at one point in the third quarter. He racked up 153 yards in that span.
