Reactions to Urban Meyer being hired by Ohio State

Reactions to Urban Meyer returning to college coaching with Ohio

State on Monday.

We will always be indebted to Urban Meyer and his contributions

to the University of Florida. He elevated our program, winning

multiple national championships and made a strong impact in this

community. Over the past 11 months, he has clearly had an

opportunity to determine that now is the right time to return to

coaching. He is good for college football and we knew he would

return to the sidelines to coach again. We wish nothing but the

best for him and his family as he embarks on a new chapter in his

career.” – Florida Athletic Director Jeremy Foley.

”He’s a very good recruiter. He’s a very good teacher of

football. He works everybody hard, coaches and players, hard. He

has tough practices. I mean, really tough, Southeastern Conference

practices, is what I call them.” Former Ohio State coach Earle

”He was a friend of mine and I’m not worried about his health.

He was healthy all year, looked good and we worked out. He was

fine. I’m not his doctor, though.” – ESPN analyst and former Ohio

State linebacker Chris Spielman.

”I’m sure he’s excited about it, and I’m excited for him that

he has an opportunity to go back to his home state and be the head

coach here. I think it’s a wonderful opportunity and I think he’ll

do a great job.” – Alabama coach Nick Saban.

”There are times you can pause in your career. You want to look

and see what’s important to you. He decided to re-enter the

profession he loves. I’m glad he’s back.” – LSU coach Les

”I knew this – I didn’t think he’d be out very long. I didn’t

know how soon he would be back, but he’s a football coach and

that’s what he needs to do.” – Louisville coach, and former

Florida defensive coordinator under Meyer, Charlie Strong.

”He makes you feel important. He brings in good coaches. He

wins wherever he goes. He makes you feel like it’s about more than

just football.” – Cleveland Browns cornerback and former Florida

players Joe Haden.
