Penn State’s Nassib aiming for an interesting triple crown
Maybe Penn State head coach James Franklin said it best when talking about what senior and first-year starter Carl Nassib has done so far this season.
“I don't know if I've ever heard of a guy that's leading the country in sacks, tackles for a loss, and forced fumbles,” Franklin told reporters Tuesday. “That's a really impressive statistic.”
Indeed, a look at the national statistics confirms Franklin is correct.
After notching 3.5 tackles for loss — including 1.5 sacks — at Ohio State last week, Nassib is No. 1 in the nation with 2.2 tackles for loss per game and 1.64 sacks. He's also forced five fumbles (0.71 per game) to edge Sean Davis of Maryland (four in six games) and Joe Schobert of Wisconsin (four in seven games).
“Personally I don't think about stats very much,” Nassib told reporters Tuesday. “The only stats that matter to me are wins and losses at the end of the week. Any success that I have is chalked up to my teammates and my coaches, and it's been a privilege playing with this team. You know, the 2015 team will never be together again after this year, so we're going to make the most of it.”
