New PSU DC identifies questions he needs to answer this spring

Penn State will have a few key starters to replace this year.

Penn State football will have new coordinators on each side of the ball in 2016.

While much attention has gone to the offensive side regarding what new coach Joe Moorhead can do to fix a broken unit, just as crucial will be how Brent Pry transitions to coordinator of a defense that was a strength during the first two years of James Franklin’s tenure as head coach.

In a radio interview Pry recently identified some of the things he wants to find out about his team this offseason via

“You have to find out who you are. That’s part of the winter, that’s part of the spring and preseason camp. You have to find out where your strengths are. Last year we were able to rush four quite a bit. Will we be able to do that this year? I can’t answer that right now. We have a lot of reps between now and then to figure that out. How good of a man coverage team are we? That’s going to be important. How intelligent of a football team are we going to be? We are going to be very young – so how much are we able to do?”

Pry will have to replace three standout defensive linemen, a starting linebacker and two starters from the secondary, but he said he feels better about the depth of the 2016 Nittany Lions than previous squads.

Penn State begins spring practice March 18.
