For many it has been a season of forgetting, or complaining, and/or pointing figures at inadequacies. For others it has been a season of learning on the job, dealing with injuries and coaching a team with as much positivity as possible. Yet with all of this, Head Coach Mark Helfrich may be coaching in his final game on Saturday.
I am among those who believe he should be given the chance to turn things around. The Oregon Ducks will look for their ninth straight win over Oregon State. There have been a lot of positives to point to this season.
Quarterback Justin Herbert has shown he has the poise to lead the Oregon Offense. The team has rallied around Helfrich this season who has shown, at least inside the locker room, that he is the leader of his squad. While it has not been a great season for Running Back Royce Freeman, he has pulled it together.
Defensively the team took a big step last weekend against the Utah Utes. Brady Hoke saw his players step Utah on 7 of 12 third downs giving the Oregon Ducks Offense an opportunity to win the game.
With two straight wins the Oregon Ducks may also have an outside shot at a Bowl Game with a 5-7 record. A bowl win and 6-7 record would at least make the season more respectable.outside shot at a Bowl Game with a 5-7 record. A bowl win and 6-7 record would at least make the season more respectable.
