What slow start? Bosa still among nation’s best DEs
Ohio State defensive end Joey Bosa has not put up quite the eye-popping numbers he did last season to this point, but he's still been recognized by the folks who give out the award for best defensive end in the country.
Bosa is among five Big Ten East players nominated for the Ted Hendricks Award at midseason, joining Maryland's Yannick Ngakoue, Indiana's Nick Mangieri, Penn State's Carl Nassib and Michigan State's Shilique Calhoun.
The Buckeye junior is 13th in the nation with 1.6 tackles for loss per game.
That ranks fourth in the Big Ten while his 3.5 sacks are tied for 19th.
The Hendricks Award is named after former Miami (Fla.) star Ted Hendricks. a three-time All-American who went on to win four Super Bowls and make the Pro Bowl eight times before being inducted into both the Pro Football and College Football Halls of Fame.
The finalists for the award will be announced in late November with the winner being named Dec. 9.
