Irish QB Crist suffers leg injury

Notre Dame quarterback Dayne Crist was forced to leave Saturday’s 28-27 loss to Tulsa in the first quarter with an injury to his left leg after he was driven out of bounds following a 29-yard run.

After Crist broke off the run, he was hit hard and knocked out of bounds by Tulsa’s Tanner Antle. Tommy Rees replaced Crist.

Crist was examined on the sideline and got on an exercise bike before he was led to the locker room with a brace on his left leg. He watched the second half on crutches from the sidelines.

Irish coach Brian Kelly said Crist’s injury was severe but was unsure if it was season-ending.

He also said the Notre Dame career of leading rusher Armando Allen could be over because of a hip flexor injury that may need surgery.
