No sooner than Temple took the lead over Notre Dame in Philadelphia, the Fighting Irish struck right back.

Facing a third and short, quarterback DeShone Kizer pulled the ball on a zone read fake, taking advantage of an aggressive Owls defense keying on running back C.J. Prosise.

Kizer turned up field to find only one man left, picked up a block on him and raced 79 yards for a touchdown that put the Fighting Irish on top 14-10 in the second quarter.

Kizer’s run was the second-longest in school history by a quarterback, trailing only an 80-yard run by Blair Kiel in 1980 against Arizona, although that was on a fake punt.

The Fighting Irish won 24-20 thanks to a touchdown pass from Kizer to Will Fuller with 2:09 left.

The quarterback ran for 143 yards and threw for another 299.
