NFL Draft candidates strong in Missouri Valley Conference

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 8:39 p.m. ET

(STATS) - South Dakota State tight end Dallas Goedert is considered the leading FCS prospect for next week's NFL Draft - some believe a candidate for going late in the first round.

The 6-foot-5 pass catcher has company in the Missouri Valley Football Conference when it comes to draft prospects.

Northern Iowa wide receiver Daurice Fountain, the offensive MVP of the East-West Shrine Game, and Illinois State cornerback Davontae Harris are expected to be selected on the third and final day of the draft. North Dakota State inside linebacker Nick DeLuca, South Dakota State wide receiver Jake Wieneke and Illinois State defensive lineman Dalton Keene are other day 3 candidates, while North Dakota State cornerback Tre Dempsey, Northern Iowa safety Elijah Campbell and Western Illinois teammates Jaelon Acklin, a wide receiver, and Brett Taylor, an inside linebacker, are among the likely free agent signings if they go undrafted.

Last year, only Youngstown State defensive ends Derek Rivers and Avery Moss were drafted out of the MVFC, so this year's class of prospects is considered stronger.
