LeGrand is committed to recovery

Rutgers football player Eric LeGrand on Saturday made his first

appearance since becoming paralyzed in an on-field incident,

telling thousands at a fundraiser held at the school in his honor

that he was committed to recovery, The Star-Ledger reported.

The 6-foot-2, 275-pound junior for the Scarlet Knights suffered

the severe injury while making a tackle on a kickoff against Army

on Oct. 16.

LeGrand has movement in his shoulders and full sensation

throughout his body, but his progress so far has been sensory, not

motor.

The 20-year-old received a standing ovation Saturday as he

entered Rutgers’ Louis Brown Athletic Center in Piscataway, N.J.,

in a motorized wheelchair.

“I’m gonna keep choppin’ and doing my rehab,” LeGrand told the

3,000 people in attendance.

It was not immediately how much money the event, which featured

seven comedians, had raised.
