NC State's McKever to transfer once he graduates

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) North Carolina State tight end Pharoah McKever is transferring out of the program once he graduates this spring.

Coach Dave Doeren announced McKever's decision Tuesday. Upon graduation, he will be eligible to play for his new team this season.

McKever has played wide receiver and defensive end during his career before moving to tight end in 2015. Most of his action came on special teams. His blocked punt against Notre Dame was returned by a teammate for the only touchdown in a 10-3 victory over the Fighting Irish in October in a game played in hurricane conditions.

He says he considers N.C. State home, but wants to ''spend my last season somewhere that I can play a bigger role on the field.''
