N. Iowa 38, W. Illinois 10

Quarterback Tirrell Rennie accounted for five touchdowns and

rushed for over 100 yards for the third straight game as Northern

Iowa beat Western Illinois 38-10 Saturday in the Missouri Valley

Conference opener for both teams.

Rennie had touchdown runs of 2, 12 and 35 yards while rushing

for 106 yards on 12 carries. He also completed 10 of 14 passes for

142 yards, including TD throws of 30 yards to David Johnson and 4

to Darion Howard.

Johnson added 132 yards rushing on 21 carries for the Panthers

(2-1).

Western Illinois (1-3) got its only touchdown on a 1-yard run by

Caulton Ray with 2:49 left in the game. Ray had 79 yards rushing.

Josh Hudson was 7 for 12 passing for 97 yards before leaving with

an injury that Leathernecks coach Mark Hendrickson said afterward

was not serious. Wil Lunt finished up, completing 11 of 20 passes

for 110 yards.
