Michigan State is expected to hire former Texas A&M defensive coordinator Mark Snyder, FOX Sports’ Bruce Feldman reported Thursday morning.

Snyder was dismissed in November after the Aggies went 7-5 overall and 3-5 in SEC play. Michigan State is in need of help on the defensive side of the ball, with longtime coordinator Pat Narduzzi leaving to take the head coaching job at Pitt.

Snyder will not become the team’s defensive coordinator, as current Spartans assistants Harlon Barnett and Mike Tressel were named as co-defensive coordinators last month. It’s possible that Snyder slides in to coach either defensive backs or linebackers, as Barnett and Tressel, respectively, previously filled those roles.

Snyder and Michigan State head coach Mark Dantonio have a shared history, as they both coached under Jim Tressel at Ohio State, where they won a national title in January 2002.
