NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Vanderbilt coach Derek Mason has promoted Gerry Gdowski to offensive coordinator and hired a trio of new assistant coaches.

Mason announced his new coaches Wednesday, adding Devin Fitzsimmons as special teams coordinator and tight ends coach, Nick Eason for defensive line and Tim Horton for running backs.

Gdowski has been with Mason since 2014 coaching quarterbacks the past three seasons, including 2018 with Kyle Shurmur throwing for 3,130 yards and 24 touchdowns for the second-best totals in team history. Gdowski will continue to coach quarterbacks.

Fitzsimmons spent the past five years as an assistant with the NFL's Detroit Lions. Eason coached the defensive line with the NFL's Tennessee Titans between 2014 and 2017. Horton has been in the Southeastern Conference the past 12 years and had coached running backs at Auburn since 2013.
