Jacksonville St. 28, E. Illinois 21

Washaun Ealey rushed for 155 yards and Calvin Middleton ran for

two 1-yard touchdowns Saturday night as Jacksonville State held off

Eastern Illinois 28-21 in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

Ealey, a transfer from the University of Georgia, carried 24

times and accounted for more than half of Jacksonville State’s 294

yards rushing. The Gamecocks (3-1, 2-0) also got 96 yards on the

ground from Middleton. After each team scored a touchdown in each

of the first three quarters, Middleton’s 1-yard burst in the fourth

period gave Jacksonville State the victory.

Eastern Illinois (1-3, 0-2) got a fine passing performance from

Jimmy Garoppolo. He completed 20 of 32 attempts for 214 yards and

two touchdowns. But Garoppolo was also intercepted twice. His

counterpart, Gamecocks quarterback Coty Blanchard, hit on 13 of 19

passes for 121 yards and two short touchdowns, one each to Justin

Howard and Trey Smith.
