Report: Former Trojans RB to sue school
Tennessee Titans running back Stafon Johnson is suing USC over a weightlifting injury that derailed his senior season, the Los Angeles Times reported Friday.
Johnson, whose rookie season with the Titans was ended by a preseason ankle injury last year, will seek unspecified damages from USC and Jamie Yanchar, a former assistant strength and conditioning coach.
The lawsuit relates to what doctors described as near-fatal injuries when a weightlifting bar carrying 275 pounds (125kg) fell on Johnson’s neck during a workout on campus in September 2009.
The incident left him in the hospital for three weeks and saw him sidelined for nearly all of the 2009 season.
The 22-year-old’s attorney has called a news conference for Monday to announce the filing of the personal injury lawsuit.
