Former FSU Quarterback Trolls Nick Saban Over Alabama Coaching Chaos
Former FSU quarterback Danny Kanell, who makes it a hobby to troll the SEC, took aim at Alabama head coach Nick Saban over another lost coordinator.
Over the first five weeks of the 2017 calendar, the Alabama Crimson Tide have gone through more offensive coordinators (two) than they have played actual games (one). The sudden departure of Steve Sarkisian to the Atlanta Falcons on Tuesday means that when ‘Bama takes on FSU football this coming September, head coach Nick Saban will be breaking in a new mind in live game action.
The move comes after the coordinator for the last three seasons, “Party Boy” Lane Kiffin, was asked to leave the sidelines and get an early start on his new job as the head coach at Florida Atlantic shortly after Alabama won the Peach Bowl on New Year’s Eve. Now, questions are flying about who Alabama will bring in.
The news of coaching chaos was music to the ears of those who can’t stand Roll Tide nation – including on of the biggest trolls against the SEC, former FSU quarterback Danny Kanell. Since going from local television in Miami to ESPN, Kanell has almost made it his job to take on the big, bad power conference.
During his Tuesday radio show, Kanell took a shot not just at the SEC or the University of Alabama…but the man who has won four of the last eight national championships:
“I don’t think any coach wants to coach for Nick Saban. I don’t think any coach wants to go there and is like ‘Hey! I want to be a lifetime assistant for Nick Saban.’ They do it as a stepping stone to get there.
“You’re going to have to be there as soon as the lights come on. You’re going to have to leave when it’s late at night. It’s part of being a Nick Saban assistant. You have to put in hours that are insane hours and have to go through things that you wouldn’t have to at other jobs.”

Those who root for the men in crimson are going to come and Saban’s defense and say that coaching for the Crimson Tide is a privilege that plenty should wish they could be a part of. Indeed, many of those who have worked under arguably the best coach of the last decade have gotten promotions.
The list of coaches dating back to his time at LSU and continuing with the Miami Dolphins and at Alabama include Florida’s Jim McElwain, South Carolina’s Will Muschamp, Georgia’s Kirby Smart and…there’s one more…oh yeah, our very own Jimbo Fisher.
That being said, you can’t fault Sarkisian for taking a position in the NFL at this point in his career – when personal struggles seemed to have sidelined him after being let go from USC. It’s a lateral move in job title, but a big promotion from the college game to the NFL.
Besides, now he’ll be in Atlanta to watch the Seminoles beat the Crimson Tide in the opener and not have to worry about being on that losing side.
