Week 1 of the 2015 college football season is just about in the books, with primetime being a showcase for Alabama’s running game. Derrick Henry had three touchdowns and Kenyan Drake added another as the No. 3 Crimson Tide overpowered No. 20 Wisconsin in Arlington, Texas.
The day went largely according to form but did feature one upset — Northwestern’s victory over No. 21 Stanford. Louisville gave a strong showing of itself in the second half vs. No. 6 Auburn, but early mistakes proved too much for the Cardinals to overcome in Atlanta.
No. 3 Alabama 35, No. 20 Wisconsin 17 (recap): Jake Coker did well in starting for the Tide, but Derrick Henry was the bigger story. He had TD runs of 56, 37 and 2 yards in the game.
No. 6 Auburn 31, Louisville 24 (recap): Tigers took advantage of two Cardinals turnovers and turned them into 14 points. Cardinals fought hard in the second half to give themselves a shot, but the hole proved too deep to overcome.
No. 7 Oregon 61, Eastern Washington, 42 (recap): Vernon Adams faced his old school in his first game with the Ducks and left early after taking a hit to the head, but it was the team’s rushing game that led the charge.
No. 8 USC 55, Arkansas State 6 (recap): Cody Kessler’s four touchdown passes were part of the fun.
No. 9 Georgia 51, Louisiana-Monroe 14 (recap): FOX Sports’ Bruce Feldman ranks Bulldogs RB Nick Chubb as the No. 2 player in the country. He had 2 of UGA’s TDs, and fellow RB Keith Marshall had 2 more. Game called early because a second weather delay.
No. 10 Florida State 59, Texas State 16, ESPN News (recap): The first game of the post-Jameis Winston era is in the books. Everett Golson threw for four TDs in his Seminoles debut in the easy win.
No. 11 Notre Dame 38, Texas 3 (recap): Malik Zaire was exceptional for the Irish with 3 TD passes. Another disappointment for the Longhorns.
No. 14 LSU vs McNeese State, canceled: Game called before it hardly even had a chance to start. A lengthy weather delay was to blame, and the game will not be made up.
Texas A&M 38, No. 15 Arizona State 17 (recap): A&M’s Christian Kirk broke open the game late with his second TD of the game. The freshman from Scottsdale, Ariz., had an earlier score on a punt return. But the biggest story is this: the Aggies are a legitimate playoff contender, writes FOX Sports’ Stewart Mandel.
No. 17 Ole Miss 76, UT Martin 3 (recap): Robert Nkemdiche for Heisman! He had a 31-yard TD catch in the first half, and his defense did not allow a touchdown. Trae Elston kept a potential TD off the scoreboard by intercepting a Jarod Neal pass and returning it 93 yards for a score.
No. 18 Arkansas 48, UTEP 13 (recap): Brandon Allen torched Miners with TD passes on Arkansas’ first four possessions.
No. 19 Oklahoma 41, Akron 3 (recap): Sooners QB Baker Mayfield thrrew for 3 TD passes and rushed for another.
