Callaway resigns as UAB football coach

Neil Callaway has resigned as football coach at UAB.

Athletic Director Brian Mackin announced the move Sunday, after

the Blazers completed a 3-9 season the day before by losing 38-35

to previously winless Florida Atlantic. In Callaway’s five seasons

as coach, the Blazers went 18-42 and never had a winning

record.

Callaway was hired at UAB in December 2006 after six seasons as

offensive coordinator at Georgia.

Mackin said a national search for a new coach will begin

immediately.

He said he would discuss the coaching change and the program’s

future at a news conference Monday morning in the Green and Gold

Room of Bartow Arena.
