Auburn Football: Adams, Lawson Move Up in Some NFL Mock Drafts

Here we take a look at NFL Draft hopefuls Montravius Adams and Carl Lawson, whose draft stock has risen in recent mock drafts.

A recent strong performance in the Senior Bowl has moved Auburn football defensive lineman Montravius Adams up in several NFL mock drafts, while teammate Carl Lawson is now being selected as high as No. 6.

Adams had six tackles, a sack and a fumble recovery in last month’s Senior Bowl generally made life miserable for the offensive linemen he went up against. His strong motor during practices also helped shed the impression that he takes plays and games off.

Luke Easterling of USAToday’s DraftWire has moved Adams up to the No. 17 pick in the first round, going to the Washington Redskins. Easterling writes, “Washington needs to get younger and deeper in the trenches on both sides of the ball. Adams is a rare athlete for his size at 6-4, 309 pounds.”

Easterling has Lawson going No. 43 in the second round to the New Orleans Saints.

Adams is moving in the first round in other drafts as well. Matt Miller of BleacherReport.com has him going in the first round, No. 31 overall, to the Atlanta Falcons.

Miller wrote, “They now need to plug the holes on their depth chart where players are getting older or more expensive. The defensive line makes sense as a priority. Auburn’s Montravius Adams can play nose tackle or 3-technique, and the skills he displayed on the field at the Senior Bowl made him look like a first-round talent. Adams can shoot gaps or hold attack at the line of scrimmage, and he has the athletic tools to further develop into a force beside Grady Jarrett.”

He has Lawson going No. 64, the last pick in the second round, to the New England Patriots.

Meanwhile, the ProFootballFocus.com mock draft has Lawson going sixth overall in the first round to the Carolina Panthers. It notes, “Lawson has work to do to improve against the run, but he’s flashed his potential there and Carolina can use an infusion of youth at defensive end with Lawson a good fit for their 4-3 scheme.”

Its mock draft does not have Adams going in the first round.

Dane Brugler of CBSSports.com has Lawson going No. 28 in the first round to the Dallas Cowboys.

Draftsite.com has Lawson going in the second round, No. 40, overall, to the Panthers, while it has Adams going in the fourth round to the Tennessee Titans.

With Auburn’s Pro Day and the NFL Combine in the next month, look for more movement by Adams and Lawson if they impress the scouts and coaches,
